The 7-day period used in many calendars.
Names of the days are derived from the names of the gods or planets in Greek and early Germanic mythology. These are as follows:
| Sunday | Sun |

| Monday | Moon |
| Tuesday | Tieus, or Mercury |
| Wednesday | Woden, or Mars |
| Thursday | Thor, or Jupiter |
| Friday | Freya, or Venus |
| Saturday | Saturn |
The Egyptians used a 10-day week.
