By the time of Augustus, astrology had infiltrated nearly every aspect of Roman life. Laws were passed to regulate its practice. Adherents of stoicism, a philosophy of life that many leading Romans follow- ed, accepted and supported astrology. At least two of the Roman emperors were practicing astrologers – Tiberius and Hadrian – and most emperors consulted astrologers, who were generally numbered among the learned men of the time.
