(1858-1938) American astronomer. Born at Boston, Massachusetts; died at Mandeville, Jamaica.

In 1891, with his brother, Edward Charles Pickering, he founded an astronomical observatory in Peru. He discovered Phoebe, a satellite of Saturn, in 1899, observing that it revolved in a retrograde orbit. He also computed an orbit of a possible trans-Neptunian planet, obtaining results which were close to those of Percival Lowell.
