An eclipse where the moon passes through the earth's penumbra, causing a darkening of the moon but no distinct shadow across it; the closest approach (using apparent positions) of one celestial body to another one.

An Eclipse phenomena which occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth's Penumbra. This causes a darkening of the Moon but no distinct shadow on the Moon.

The near approach of one orbital body to another — a conjunction; the culmination at or crossing of the meridian. Applied particularly to the appulse of the Moon to the Earth's shadow. v. Penumbral Eclipse.
