Vulcan [Astro*Index]

A hypothetical planet with an orbit inside that of Mercury. It was presumably sighted twelve times between 1720 and 1907. There is no modern evidence for its existence, although ephemerides have been published giving its supposed position. Not to be confused with Vulcanus, which is one of the Uranian Planets.

An hypoth6tical planet, much conjectured among ancient astrologers, the orbit of which is supposed to lie inside that of Mercury. Astronomers have so far found no justification for any assumption of its existence.
