1 article for "Peregrinus, Petrus"
Peregrinus, Petrus [Astro*Index](per-uh-grine'us)
(1240?-?) French scholar. Born Petrus de Maricort, he was given the name Peregrinus (the Pilgrim).
He may have been a Crusader. An experimenter interested in magnets, he attempted to build a motor which would operate the planetarium designed by Archimedes. He designed a new compass, placing the needle on a pivot, and supplied a compass rose (the graduated circle) which allows greater accuracy in reading the needle's position.
