Medieval West [Prima]

Early Christianity regarded astrology as a component of paganism and discouraged its study and practice. The loss and decline of the ancient cultural centers also kept astrological interest to a minimum. Ultimately, Christian theology came to the position that astro-meteorology and medical astrology were entirely legitimate but that judicial (natal) astrology posed some serious problems. By the 13th century, most Italian courts had astrologers and the subject was being taught at universities. The influx of ideas from the Arabs was an important element in this resurgence.
