Cylindrical Coordinates [Astro*Index]When (r,L,z) specify the position of a point on the surface of a cylinder of radius, r, at a `longitude' angle, L, and a height, z.
Conversions between rectangular cartesian and cylindrical coordinates are effected by means of the formulas:
| x | = | rcosL | |
|---|---|---|---|
| y | = | rsinL | |
| z | = | z | |
| r | = | sqrt(x2 + y2) | |
| L | = | atan2(y,x) | |
| z | = | z | |
