The Sabian Oracles
Program, text, and Images by Michael Erlewine
Sabian Symbols by Marc Edmund Jones
In 1925 master astrologer Marc Edmund Jones sat down with the brilliant psychic Else Wheeler in a quiet park in San Diego, California. Jones held in his hand a deck of 360 cards on which were written the 360 degrees of the zodiac, one for each day of the year.
He placed the cards, one by one, blank side up before the trance medium and she described what image came to her mind. As medium Wheeler spoke, Jones wrote down the verbal image for each of the degrees of the zodiac, one for each birth day (degree of experience) in the year. This is how the now-legendary “Sabian Symbols” were born.
Today, over 70 years later, the Sabian Symbols are used by astrologers all over the world for insight into what makes a particular day what it is.
