In the News:

'W' (October 2008)
Oliver Stone by John Townley

Oliver Stone may be the only person of note to have graduated from that ultra-elite academy The Hill School (unless you include James Baker, William Proxmire, and this astrologer in that class) — which, in itself, makes him even more noteworthy. Despite its emphasis on the arts and humanities, that institution surprisingly rarely turns out anyone that contributes to them, so he has triumphed against the odds.

In part, that’s got to be a Jupiter-Saturn thing, and he’s got Jupiter and Mars rising (in Libra conjunct a Scorpio Ascendant, a double-whammy) so you really notice him, and Saturn right at the MC, so you really take him seriously. Plus, Venus in the first house adds charm to the Mar-Jupiter impact, making Stone someone you immediately notice and don’t forget having met.

Despite plenteous self-confidence bestowed by Moon trine the Sun and the usual self-confidence native to a bowl chart, the horoscope is not all ease and relaxation by any means. The Moon is square Pluto, which gives it a dark tinge and even a little innate paranoia (for which his films are known) and makes him force issues that might be better negotiated. Mercury is combust the Sun (but not quite the even closer, more brilliant Cazimi) which allows his ideas to get overwhelmed by his ego and makes it hard for him to stand back and take a realistic look at his work. On top of that, this bowl chart is almost entirely above the horizon, so he lives in a fish bowl and it’s hard to get unbiased feedback on his creations.

Current events: The coming year sees transiting Saturn rolling over his natal Sun and Mercury, which will be putting him to the test to sustain both his ideas and personal style. His new biopic “W.” about Bush II should be just the vehicle to put him back into the spotlight and to the realms of both controversy and conspiracy that have so well-suited him over the years.
