Lisa Kudrow
by John Townley
Lisa Kudrow must have done something wonderful in a past life to have been rewarded by the likes of Friends. That’s the kind of thing that happens when you get the nodes lined up along an angle, especially the Ascendant — you just walk into destiny’s back yard not knowing it, and there you are.
That’s approximately what happened with Friends, where the key to success was the ensemble, not any one of the individuals, none of whom were or are outstanding on their own. With a splash chart, Kudrow is marked with the inclination to do just about everything, so it’s not surprising to see her spread out into writing and production after the hit series, but so far without much success.
Her chart doesn’t exactly depict star material, with no big grand trines or Venus-Mars conjunctions here. There’s some mild affliction in the presence of a wide T-cross of Mercury-Saturn-Moon (difficulty in transmitting emotions) and a Jupiter square to the Ascendant (repetitive overstatement), but these characteristics pretty much define Phoebe in the series, showing brilliant casting. Jupiter receiving a trine from Mercury (wordy but effective), helps make her effusive but useful in the mix. Even in comedy alone, you would expect a prominent Uranus, but short of that planet being her Sun/Mars midpoint, it doesn’t stand out that much.
Friends began its run at a critical time for her, when she was undergoing a Sun-Pluto progression, time for killing off the past persona and inventing a new one, with transiting Jupiter right on her MC heading for its return in her tenth house. Fame and fortune were calling, but in a way where she had to subsume her own light into the ensemble mix and be reborn in that context alone.
Current events: Like everybody else in the series, when it ended she was left alone without the kind of traction that a solo star has in jumping from one role to the next. But never fear, Lisa, your progressed Moon is about to break out into the open over the Ascendant and North Node by year’s end, with progressed Ascendant hitting natal Mars and progressed Mercury (ideas, activity, work), so there’s lots of new action in store, and another dose of fruitful fate you can mount and ride once again.
