It is not unusual for astrologers to also be accomplished musicians, or even primarily musical artists and only afterwards planetary practitioners. Noted examples would be Dane Rudhyar (a composer) and Noel Tyl (an opera singer). Kenn Gartner is just such a multi-track achiever, holding a degree from the Julliard School of Music, a master's in Musicology from Queens College, and a Ph.D. in Performance from New York University. He has performed in over 60 countries and his experiences range from a command performance for the Mayor of Halifax (Nova Scotia) to a master class in piano (Shanghai Institute, China). He has traveled the world to perform and teach and has a number of students who themselves have achieved renown under his tutelage. All in all, a musical virtuoso.
Yet, early on, following his early fascination with astrology and unhappy with its teaching methods, he found himself called upon to teach the subject at a variety of venues, among them for many years New York’s Stuyvesant High School. Building a personal clientele among the business community, he found that fully half his time became involved with astrology, all the while maintaining his musical career. Among the more unusual of his many and diverse teaching efforts has been an encapsulated astrology course for Evelyn Wood, of speed-reading fame — a feat no doubt facilitated by his natal Mars/Mercury conjunction in Virgo!
Recently relocated to Marin County, California, Gartner is reinventing both of his careers from a West Coast perspective, so who knows what he may come up with next. As he says, he’s only covered the first two parts of the Classical Quadrivium (Astrology and Music) with a little engineering thrown in early on in his career, so there’s still room for more expansion…He can be reached for either astrology or music at Astrologue@aol.com. |
